Very nice mouth feel, almost nonexistent head, but a very nice sweetness and malt taste. Alcohol taste is slight although ABV is 11.1%. One of my favorites, love barrel-aged beers. Rated 1-25-2020

Palate Contaminants: sweet bread

Look is medium brown and moderately opaque. Fine, light head yet little lacing. It also seems to have a thickness that I usually associate with something thick like Guinness.

The smells are lemon and raisin bread. The rye is absolutely apparent, and it blends nicely with the sweet bread scent. And I keep getting dried fruit beyond raisins, like figs. There's also a buttery element.

Dried fruit and sweet tobacco dominate the initial taste. It's a bit like a fruitcake (but one of the good ones without the candied fruits). Of course, with rye comes spice, in this case cinnamon and basil. The only thing holding it back is that none of those flavors are particularly deep, but it is a plenty pleasant brew.

Foamy carbonation. I almost enjoy the aftertaste more than the taste, it lingers that much (which is good). Some alcohol kick. Good timing on this for me as it's making for a good dessert.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark, brown-orange with a thin light khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, orange, raisins, vanilla; reminds me somewhat of Gran Marnier liqueur, but with more complex fruit character. Flavor is caramel malt, orange, cinnamon, vanilla, raisins, a touch of rye tartness, suggestions of dried cherry, citron, orange rind and brandy. As another reviewer suggests, the finish has a remarkable oatmeal-raisin cookie profile. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This is a really great cocktail inspired ale; actually leans more towards the liqueur end of the booze spectrum. Very complex and interesting. I'm skeptical of the cocktail inspired beers, but this one completely won me over. It's been waiting for review for a while and I really hope I can find another bottle or two. Very nicely done.

What a beautiful beer. Nearing black but for a gorgeous deep crimson highlight. The beer is clean with a mirroring effect, and a light tan foam rests above.

The aroma is one of a kind and quite hard to describe. Spicy, but obviously barrel influenced. Cinnamon, vanilla, booze and barrel. Like an adult version of Cinnamon Toast Crunch without the obnoxious sweetness.

The flavor goes off. Hope you're a fan of oatmeal raisin cookies cuz this is exactly that. Soaked in booze and wrapped up in wood of course. Delicious.

The feel is just right. Slightly slick and rich, but smooth, and spicy over a moderate sweetness. Perfectly warming, and a dry finish influenced by the barrel.

What a fantastic beer! I knew I'd be in love considering the source an my giddyness for anything rye, but this went above and beyond. I will definitely be going back for more. Though I'm not quite sure if this will benefit from age or not? Hopefully I'll find out. Cheers.
