a belgian strong golden done with pears and roses, very cool recipe idea and i couldnt pass it up when i saw it. close to all the way clear with a tall white head with good retention from the tap at the brewery. i think its only subtly complex, this could have been perfume and its not, pear and rose can be strong in beer, especially in combination i would imagine, but they did a good job keeping both of these not only reserved but also very natural, which makes this beer a delicate success. the belgian yeast element is pretty mild here too, which i think is a good thing, if this were too estery or fermentation forward with these extras, it might be over the top, but just a little compatible apple, green grape, and ripe banana qualities from it which marry in brilliantly. overall the beer is actually quite mild, not that strong for a golden strong, not that belgian for a belgian, and not overly fragrant or pungent on the pear and rose, but this remains a rather distinctive brew. the rose comes on late, and more as it warms, lush and kind of sexy somehow, the pear is green and sweet, nice with the simple malt base in here, and really this is delicious, drinkable, well refined, and smartly done. high carbonation is on point for the style and the flavors, and there is refreshment value here beyond what i expected. delicious with their spicy sweet potato tacos in here. breakside always hits, and this is a real nice glass of beer here.
