16 oz can that was purchased from American Market on State Street., Salem Oregon.
$3.00.
Didn't see that this is pretty old for a dark lager. Being canned back in October last year.
Oh well here goes!
Pours a rather attractive hazelnut brown, clear with a lovely thick and creamy eggshell white head. About 3/4 inch.
Very good-looking beer.
Malty, toasty aromas mainly quite delicious but subdued (age?). Simple but very appetizing.
Taste malty, yet not sweet. Deep caramel and toffee flavors, a slight touch of fig and a bit of a hint of noble type hops in the end. very good.
The mouth feel is good for the style, lowish carbonation and medium body lend to a really nice feel for a beer so low in alcohol .
Very good been. Even great for the strength. I hope to get this fresher late this year. If they release it again . But right now for an 8 month old lager its lovely as it is.

breakside does everything well, so i was excited to see this one, not sure what its even really supposed to be, a low alcohol lager thats sort of english but also sort of german to me, malty and basic, but flavorful and good, executed to a high degree like so many of their beers, we dont see enough new ones from these guys in boise, so this was a treat! wish we got more. a lovely deep amber color to this, nice and clear, with a fading but still puffy inch of bone white foam, nice. the nose and taste have an almost english crystal malt front end with more earth nutty grains on the back end, a fresher but still sort of dusty german malt note, and a european lager yeast complexion thats mild and familiar but enhanced well by these grains, the hops are extremely light, almost a nonfactor in this. it comes out of the tap a bit cold but opens well, raisin, long boiled grain richness, almond, minerals, and a real breadiness to the yeast later on. in some ways this is real simple, but in other ways its quite evolved. smooth and satisfying to drink on, crisp for its color, enough carbonation, and not at all light on flavor for how low the abv is. impressive quality, one part english mild one part german single bock to my tastes, cool beer for this time of year when winter is (hopefully) over, but it definitely doesnt feel like spring yet. breakside never disappoints!
