Sampling a 2021 vintage at cellar temp and poured into my snifter.
Beer pours a black coffee color and no light passses through my glass. A tan creamy head of about 2.5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer after the pour.
Aroma is dark chocolate fudge brownie and some bourbon notes. Sweeter liquor, not spicy like a rye or rum barrel treatment. Hints of brown sugar on the nose too, and a little dark fruit. No hop character and not fusol or hot like a boozebomb. But I do suspect this beer has some kick.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine tingly carbonation. Silky texture and not very sticky or coating. A little warmth on the swallow.
Flavor is fudge brownie again, then some coffee grounds and a bit of fruity note. Cherries is what I keep thinking for the fruit, but its probably apple brandy. Bourbon comes in and finish has a little black pepper bite and as mentioned some warmth. No hop character here either. Beer finishes pretty dry.
This is a nice sipper with solid complexity and most of the characteristics show up during the tasting. Quite nice barrel aged imperial stout.
