Name: Frostitita
Brewery: Breakside Brewing
Location: Milwaukie, OR
Style: Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout
ABV: 14.5%
Canned: 2024
Date: 15 May 2025.
The last beer is a recent addition to the cellar, but it made it to my review table. I am serving the beer at 50 degrees in a tulip glass. The pour created a one-fingered, dark tan head with poor retention. The quick dissipation left some lacing on the glass. The color is inky black with dark amber hues. It is opaque and charting at SRM 38. Overall, it has an average appearance for an oatmeal stout.
Nosing the glass, I detect notes of char, whiskey, maple, marshmallow, toasted malts, treacle, light dates, nougat, molasses, toffee, caramel, light toasted bread crust, floral esters, leather, Maillard, earthiness, and a subtle malty sweetness.
Sipping the glass, I taste notes of oak, whiskey, nougat, molasses, marshmallow, oatmeal, dates, figs, treacle, toffee, Maillard, caramel, leather, herbal, char, dried cherries, earthiness, and a malty sweetness.
The mouthfeel is chewy and coating, finishing warm. The body is heavy and has low carbonation.
Frostitita is a bold, expressive beer with massive barrel aging, yet it is refined and delicious. I enjoyed sipping this beer.

This is pretty much exactly what I look for in a straight up, no extras barrel aged stout. Dry rather than sweet, up front I got very dark chocolate, deeply roasted nuts, coconut, and hints of nougat. The finish long, lingering roastiness in form of cocoa powder and espresso. A wonderful blanket of brown liquor covers it all beautifully. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. This is a gem! Thanks to @snaotheus for this via the barleywine/imperial stout bif.

pure enormity, and deliciousness, seems pretty straightforward for breakside, no weird barrels, no maple syrup added, no barleywine blended in, just a big old oatmeal stout in bourbon barrels, and its peaking. smooth and rich looking, some head on it for its size, mocha colored on top of a matte black base, not absurdly viscous but certainly substantial in the glass, some legs. the nose is impressively dry for what it is, i get more roasted bitterness and coffee character than i do richness, but its all here, a hint of hazelnut, vanilla, and rum raisin, toffee too, long boiled must be, quality bourbon it seems, light smoke, real appealing. im not sure i taste oats right away, but i feel their impact for sure, this is rich and smooth and almost creamy, palate coating but not way sweet, a cola note meets some earthy grain, dark roast, and good espresso, oak is as strong as whiskey here which is cool, some char to it, a toasted breadiness, vanilla. its got some bitterness which is necessary, its got a ton of body, and as it warms it gets grainy, alcoholic, and chocolaty. really well done, simple in terms of ingredients but also complex in terms of flavors, and somewhat elegant for its size, very much in line with the quality of so many other huge breakside stouts. rad to have it on tap at their new spot in astoria, that place rules!
