Tropical Pale is unlike any beer we've ever released before at Breakside. It began as one of our Freestyle Friday ideas, a foray into the outer perimeter of the world of hops and a chance to test out new ideas. We combined modern West Coast hops with a clean base pale ale and some hop-derived terpenes to create a beer that combines underlying dank notes with strong tropical fruit flavors. We get huge notes of white grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, guava, and passionfruit.

This was another beer that I picked up at a Safeway in Corvalis, Oregon when I was out that way a few months back. Never had anything from Breakside before and this wasn't a bad Tropical Pale Ale, as much as I wish the flavors were just a bit more intense.
Hazy, golden, and topped off with more than enough head, that evenly settled down and left behind a thick ring and some spots below that; with the latter only visible along the back of my pint glass. Enough white grapefruit papaya, and tropical notes were in the nose as white grape, turbid hops, and ripe mango came into play. Full in body, lightly carbonated, and easy to drink, the notes were wonderful but needed to be just a bit louder!
Aside from that, this was a lovely brew that held up well since it was canned on 2/3. No sediment was to be seen and this didn't feel skunked, although it had a slightly skunky and dank undertone to it. Enjoyed this and the recessed alcoholic presence, although this nearly felt like an IPA. Plenty of subtle fruit to be had here, if you're into that sort of thing!

BREAKSIDE TROPICAL PALE 6.1 abv
My son brought me 3 cans to try and can tell why. It’s a great tasting brew. There is a prominent apple flavor with apricot and peach flavor blended together. It is not too sweet but just the right amount of body, hops and fruit to make me smile. The glass showed heavy lacing. The taste is a complex mix of hop flavors which any hazy beer drinker would love plus the 35 IBU rating will not scare away the casual beer drinker. I highly recommend this beer.

Look: Clear yellow on the pour with a sudsy white head that slowly settles to a lid and leaves good lacing behind
Aroma: Guava, pineapple, pink grapefruit, passionfruit, papaya, mango, and some honeysuckle
Taste: Pineapple, mango, and grapefruit lead the charge, opening up quickly, hitting the palate and developing depth.
Guava, passionfruit, papaya, and floral notes weave in nicely in the middle before closing with more grapefruit and mango
Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean, medium-high carbonation, and clean, smooth, and lightly soft on the finish
Overall: I dig it. This is a tasty and well-made Pale Ale that has a lot of flavor and aroma packed into a light package. The light malt bill keeps this from being hop water but besides that, stays well out of the way to let the hops ‘pop.’ This very well might be my summertime go-to for a hop fix. Recommended

This beer pours a nice golden color with a small head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is sweet tropical fruit, pineapple and mango. The taste is more citrus with a hop bitterness and spice that continue after the sip. BOD 9-5-2024. Aroma is better than the taste, but still a good beer. Rated 10-20-2024
