Black, oily, no foam.
The smell is that of an imperial stout. Toasted notes, herbal, rhubarb-like.
Full and intense taste. The seaweed are here, with herbal notes and sea saltiness.
Then toasted, dry fruit notes, oily. The alcohol is present, but well managed.
Good body, but not too much.
Oily aftertaste, green, seaweed, toasted, nuts. Long.

L - black as night, with a nice creamy beige to cappuccino brown head that never really got past half a finger.
S & T - liquorice. alcohol warmth. little bit of saltiness from the seaweed (almost like that fluid that's still inside mussels or oysters), but never too in your face like 'look what we did here!', rather it was very well balanced. With a little bit of tart brettiness from the barrel aging, it got an almost red wine-y feel to it.
F - solid mouthfeel. nice and thick.
O - super interesting stout. Not quite what I'm used to when it comes to stouts, honestly, but that's kind of the idea with adjuncts. Very special, and I absolutely think I'll have one again.
I absolutely recommend this one.

I had this yesterday night and I am doing this in a vivid memory of this delicious stout. It was dark as the night as the Dutch name of the series suggests. The aroma showed quite some volatile heat from the Whiskey barrel aging, but also a nice deep cocoa, sweet dark malts and remarkably little roast for the style. Carbonation was low and the body was big. Was savoring the whiskey and mout complexity of the beer. The salt from the added marine marine algae were not prominent as I remember, but added to the complex taste seamlessly. Thank you Oersoep for another great beer!
