Draft offering at the brewery served in a snifter. The brew appears a muddy brown color almost looking like turbid chocolate milk blended with dirty pond water. A tan cap appears atop that leaves spotty lacing as it fades.
The aroma contains notes of earth and roast. A little tobacco and coffee appeal but none of the listed adjuncts come out...at all.
The tastes includes a bit of citrus hops blending with a bitterness of the roasted grain. It borders on heavy char with some pine-like resinous hoppy appeal. This is very much in line with a dry, hoppy american stout. However, the listed adjuncts and what makes this the "pilot small batch" were completely missing.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. As previously mentioned, none of the advertised adjuncts were to be found. As an american stout, it wasnt bad but as a vanilla and cherry infused stout, they really came up short. During my visit, this was my least favorite offering and I would not have it again unless they tinkered more with the recipe. Evidentally I got the last pour from the keg because the fellow who ordered after me only got a partial glass. Perhaps that is to blame for my bad experience with this brew?
