Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 750mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Dark brown with maybe some ruby highlights, nearly opaque. Forms a thin tan head that fades quickly. Average visible carbonation.
S: Malic acid, sour cherries, acetic acid. Some chocolate and vinegar. Oak, some funk and feet and not necessarily in a good way. Light toasted malts, dry tannins. The vinegar and acerbic feety funk are a bit of a turn off in an otherwise pretty decent and complex nose.
T: Acetic sour, malic acid, sour cherries. Some chocolate, and again a sour-stomach funky sour. Oak and vinegar and dry tannins and acrid stomach acid in the hang.
M: Medium body, average alcohol presence. Carbonation sensation is notably low for style.
O: Not quite as bad as the Aardwolf Oud Bruin I had, but it’s just not good. I loved the Aardwolf brewery itself, and the hoppy and dark beers I’ve had so far have been on point. Sadly, in the three sour/funky beers I’ve had from them…they’ve got a lot of work to do. This just wasn't good, and eventually a drain pour unfortunately.

Decent head production for a sour beer. Brew is quite dark, with a nutty, chocolatey brown color.
Aroma is smooth and moderately strong: oak, vinegar, tart cherries, chocolate, nuts, tannins, prunes, and a touch of oxidation.
Flavor is quite sour on the immediate touch to the tongue, but settles into a moderate sourness overall. Chocolate, prunes, and oak provide a contrasting (vice complementary) base for the sharper tannins, vinegar, and cherry notes - the last coming on most cleanly in the final third of the sip. A bit of apple, mash, and booze from the liquor barrels, but their presence is overall fairly restrained.
Mouthfeel is surprisingly flat - albeit not entirely devoid of carbonation. Combined with the oak, tannins, and sourness, this really does create the illusion that one is drinking a very low ABV wine.

On tap at the brewery. An "oak barrel aged cherry dark sour".
Essentially black body with a weak tan head and little lacing.
Smooth, medium+ body with medium-light carbonation.
The aroma carries dark chocolate as well as sour cherries.
Flavor: less chocolate, but some subtle notes. Moderately tart. Dark dried fruits are present about as much as the sour cherries, Oak comes out in the finish and aftertaste.
O: distinct, aroatic and flavorful.
