Head production is solid, and retention is outstanding. Dark black body is inviting.
The nose provides everything you'd expect from the description: vanilla, mild chocolate notes, sharp red grapes, slight roast, and a warm, barrel booziness that only cleans up into distinctly brandy at the end of the sniff (at first, it's nearly indistinguishable from any other whisky).
Drier and slightly more bitter (read: less sweet) on the palate than expected. Bitter Baker's chocolate notes, woody and boozy brandy barrel influence, and a modest roast. Vanilla adds a very nice layer of depth to the profile without adding much sweetness. Decent back-end heat - not unexpected, given the ABV and the barrel treatment. Fairly thick and sticky; smooth with just a touch of liveliness.
A really nice overall brew, not quite as complex as some BA-adjunct brews, but very tasty overall.
