Very good head production and retention, especially considering the age and style. More than 20 minutes after the pour, there is still a slim but firm dark tan foam topper.

Somewhat boozy nose, with slightly sharp accents from the port, brown sugar and coffee from the malt, and chocolate and vanilla from the additives in reasonable amounts.

Very similar on the palate. Despite the rich malt base and flavorings, it's sharp, oaky, and slightly sour up front. Chocolate is rich and barely sweet, and adds a wonderful depth to the proceedings without becoming too potent; vanilla is complementary. Toast, brown sugar, light char, lingering chocolate.

Hot finish, boozy and liquor-like. A nice slow sipper.
