Very strong head production; nice retention and lacing.
Nose features a spicy blend of rye whiskey, mash, cinnamon, and coffee, all sitting atop a more subdued profile of roasted malt.
Flavor ticks every possible note for me for a rye whiskey barrel aged "Florida breakfast stout." The rye is spicy, just a bit sweet-sour, and biting. The cinnamon adds flavor and heat, the vanilla an almost egg nog-like sweetness and creaminess, the coffee just the right complement to the roasted malt tones of brown sugar, chocolate, and roast.
Unbelievably smooth and drinkable, showing no real sign of the 11.2% ABV until it's far too late.
This beer is really that good. I think it blows right past the regular and other barrel aged variants of Early Bird Special and nails the sweet spot.
