Thanks to Roguer for this one, from NBS BIF #10. Poured into 10oz snifter. poured a full black color with just a thin cap of tan head that had no retention or lacing.
The aroma had a solid coffee scent, low malts, and a very light hint of the barrels.
On the tongue, the coffee still dominated, and the base beer was still somewhat hidden, but the barrels came through to provide a counter-point.
The body was smooth and even, and had a sweet finish.
Drinkability was surprisingly good, given the dominance of the coffee. The bourbon and rye were used deftly, and gave the beer good presence.
Overall, a pretty nice beer. The coffee was still strong, but the rest of the components tied it together. A nice brew, a must-try if you get the chance.

Decent head production, with approximately 1/2 finger of dark tan foam from a moderate pour. Nearly as soon as it reaches its peak and the pour is complete, however, it fizzes and virtually disappears, leaving behind a brown ring around the edge of the glass.
The smell of espresso is quite strong, even from a distance. Up close, the barrel, roasted malt, and espresso combine to give an impression of chocolate, marshmallow, red grape, and brown sugar, along with notes of oak, bourbon mash, and rye whiskey. There's nothing amiss or off; just a wonderful, deep, inviting aroma.
For such a massive beer, with double barrel treatment, this is shockingly smooth on the palate, in particularly up front. It grows slightly in sharpness throughout the sip, in particular as the coffee flavor grows in strength, and a boozy back-end heat enters the fray. Very sweet, rich, and dark. Notes of nuts, brown sugar, grapes, and prunes accompany plenty of rich espresso and both barrels.
A touch slick on the palate, but impressively drinkable and full-bodied. Surprisingly long finish, which rewards your patience with an evolving profile.
Two deep into the anniversary series, and I have been nothing but impressed. This one has more noticeable barrel character than Ace of Coins, which is itself excellent. The added espresso is a big part of the flavor profile without ever becoming burdensome.
