Thanks to Roguer for this one, from NBS BIF #10. 22oz bottle poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a solid black color with zero head, therefore no retention or lacing.

A slight sweetness in the nose, but it's just an overall "beery" sweetness, not the cookies and cream with chocolate and vanilla noted on the label. Some chocolate peeks through, and a touch of vanilla is around the edges.

The chocolate and vanilla are a wee bit stronger on the tongue, and there is a notable amount of alcohol heat.

The body was a touch on the thin side for the style, and, not surprisingly, had a sweet finish.

Drinkability was fine, although the heat made it a bit of a slog at times.

Overall, of the 4 beers in the series Roguer sent me, this is the 3rd that I've drank. So far, it's my least favorite of the group, and I thought it would be my favorite. Shrug. it's still worth trying if you can though.

Slow growing head, but even given time, it never exceeds about a quarter of a finger, and quickly vanishes. Body is a dark ebony color, and while it appears clear, swirling the glass leaves behind residue on the glass.

Big strong nose, even at refrigerator temperature. Bitter baker's chocolate, peppermint, red grapes, light char, toffee, burnt caramel, nuts, and tons of roasted barley. Bourbon and/or rye whiskey starts to emerge on the nose as the beer warms; what first seemed like peppermint is developing into the potent (but not unpleasant) ethyl notes, accompanied by a growing oaky woodiness.

Very smooth on the palate, with zero harshness from the high ABV or the barrels. Swirling and swimming in deep, dark, rich chocolate tones, layered with vanilla, and a sweet bourbon mash finish, lightly accented by spicy rye whiskey. Very sweet, with nuts, brown sugar, red grapes, and espresso tones added by the roasted barley. Very little oak. Definitely a dessert stout.

Thick, full bodied. Some back end heat. Dangerously drinkable. While there's a touch of lively sting, you can really savor this in the mouth indefinitely without pain.

I doubt this spent too much time in either barrel, as the presence is very restrained. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the overall flavor profile is absolutely phenomenal. Aardwolf does flavored stouts about as well as anyone else, and their barrel aging program is extensive and well curated. This is no exception.
