Wow, first rating and review for a brewery that's completely new to me. And I added the beer. Might be an actual first time occurrence for me. Anyway, I have no idea what the ABV of this is, but throughout my review I'll try to give an educated guess based on my experience with it. This idea has been done by a few breweries before... a "neapolitan ice cream" influenced imperial stout with chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. I have had exactly one good and one bad example of this... Stone's Neapolitan Dynamite was awful; way too coffee/roast forward with very little of the adjunct ingredients. On the other side of the coin, Pipeworks nailed it with Jones Dog Sundae, a fun and impressive mash-up of the traditional three-flavor ice cream combo with a big ol' impy stout. How will this fare compared to these two examples?

Pours a deep, rich, tar-black color with a decent sized head of deep mocha foam that settles quite quickly to just about nothing in my glass. Alright, sure, there's around a quarter-finger of it still sticking around here, but it's not much to look at, that's for sure. Loving the abyssal intensity this has in my glass. Just looks like pure blackness! Some mild lacing, though it's quite soapy/inconsistent.

The nose is actually pretty good. Kind of boozy, which makes me think this is likely in the 9-10% realm, rather than the likelihood of it staying in the shallow 8%'s or so. But, there is a decent amount of interplay between the vanillins, cocoa elements, and light fruitiness that is essentially representing the "strawberry" here... it's pretty nice, honestly. I think the strawberry does the least heavy lifting, but I would rather that than have it be way too fruit forward for its own good, so I'm alright with it. A more conservative take on this idea is not a bad thing. Definite ashen char and roast character here as well; this hasn't forgotten it's a big ol' beer, so that's good.

My first sip is oily and viscous, touting strong flavors of Belgian chocolate and roasted malts with a backing note of ripe red fruit which must be the strawberry. The finish has a good bit of smooth vanilla, while there is certainly a good grainy backdrop to which all of these things answer. This is definitely more of a malt-bomb imperial stout; not much hop balance, and the finish is clean and focused on the adjunct flavorings, which is something you'll either love or hate. Overall, I'd say I'm quite satisfied with this one. Outside of the fact that it's probably illegal as hell to not have your ABV printed anywhere on your cans or on your website whatsoever, this is a pretty fun imperial stout with a cool, niche concept. I was glad to have it, and would likely buy it again to share with open-minded friends.
