Fabulous head production for an imperial stout, aged in spirits for a year, and then in the bottle for two more years. Really impressive. Good retention. Ebony body.
Amazing amount of coffee and vanilla on the nose three years after the addition. A slight booziness from the barrels, but not much in specific profile. Chocolate from the malt base.
Smooth and deserving of the namesake on the palate, with a milky creaminess that comes on strong in the second half, and finished off by the barrel booziness. Kiss of chocolate and strong vanilla on the aftertaste. As with the nose, not a lot of unique character from the cognac, and a slight, dull oakiness. Moderate-to-strong coffee flavor, building over the sip. Absolutely delicious.
Smooth, full bodied, slight boozy heat.
Aardwolf makes the best White Russian-themed beer I've ever tried, and this variant was a worthy addition. I wish I got more influence from the cognac barrels; with a full year in the barrels, I can only think that it gets lost in the mix somewhat, and faded over two years of aging. The strength of the coffee and vanilla, on the other hand, are remarkable - and delectable!
