Enjoyed from the 22oz bottle in a snifter. This nice Belgian style ale pours a bright reddish mahogany with a moderate head of off white foam that dissipates to a thick ring, thin layer, and spotty lacing. Nose of Belgian candy sugars, moderate clove, light bread, and moderate alcohol notes. Flavors follow the nose with sweet brown sugars to the front, clove and coriander to the middle, and fresh bread and a warming alcohol note to the rear. Touches of dark fruits also are present on the back with warmth, but hard to pick out with the prickly carbonation---let it warm substantially. Mouth feel is on the higher end with a good dose of carbonation finishing with a slight grain note mixed with Belgian spice. A good first for me from this brewery. Looking forward to the other offerings.

Batch number 74 on the bottle---labeled by hand---cool!

Cheers

Way to carbonated. In general just unbalanced and slightly messy. I like the flavors, candied fruits, yeast, warm bitters and booze, dark fruit and bread, but the balance is inconsistent. Also has a slight burn on the finish.

22 ounce bottle, Batch #7. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a cloudy amber/orange/reddish color (depending on what light you're holding the beer in) with a couple inch off-white head that sticks around for a long time. There's also a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like cloves, caramel, and a bit of dark fruit. The taste pretty much follows the aroma, the clove flavor is the strongest, and there's also some caramel, cherries, pears and candied fruit noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit slick and has high but soft carbonation so it's not hard to drink. I do wish the carbonation was lower with this brew, but it does settle down as it warms so I can't complain. I'll have to revisit this one and see if the carbonation changes in future batches. Nice to see Granville Brewing putting out a solid product so far! $8.99 a bottle.
