500mL bottle poured into a snifter
A: Pitch black with a thin brown head that settles quickly
S: Rich cocoa, light paprika/smoke/cherry
T: Matches the nose
M: Fairly full-bodied, a bit sweet
O: A pleasant stout, I just wish the bourbon was a bit more prevalent

First beer I have tried from these guys, thanks George! Medium black with brown highlights in the light, khaki ring. Smell leans on the cherry hard, with some bourbon, smoke, and wood. I actually really liked the idea and execution of the beer: good sweetness and acidity from cherry after the initial savory smoke and malt, with bourbon rounding out and providing some barrel character. Feel is where I want a little more barrel, but still a lighter but chewy stout, fine work here, well worth your time!

Purchased at the brewery for $11.99 in a 500ml bottle. Decent enough brew but not as full-bodied and rich as I was hoping for. The individual flavors (smoke, paprika, etc.) were very muted.

Fluid black with a thick tan fuzzy head that slowly settles to a creamier, more dense blanket that persists for a while.

Smell is roasty, smoky malt with peanut butter and a hint of oak.

Taste is creamy chocolatey, nutty malt with a distinct hint of smoky paprika and a sharp, cherry cola-esque finish. There's not a huge influence from the barrels, and to be honest that's not a terrible thing, but it almost shouldn't even be advertised. The beer sweetens up with time due to the cherry--it's not at cloying levels, but does finish a bit juicy.

Feel is thin with a soft fizz and semi-dry, chalky finish.

Having this one on-tap at the brewery. Served to me in a tulip glass. This beer draws a very dark brown, almost black color that's not interested in letting in any light whatsoever. Has a dark tan head that's about 1/2 of an inch thick when first served that settles quickly to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass with a slight amount of leaving. Aromas of roasted, caramel and chocolate malt sweetness along with a definite cherry sweetness and a hint of sour cherry tart along with a definite spice hint of paprika and some oaked bourbon goodness. The taste is pretty much the same, with a roasted, caramel and chocolate malt flavor that gives way to a cherry flavor that's mainly sweet and also a little sour/tart. I feel the cherry flavor aspect meshes particularly well with the paprika and bourbon flavors. There's also a it if a booze flavor. Just a tealybuniquendlavor profile all around here. Has a slightly crisp and prickly, also slightly acidic, somewhat chewy and slightly oily, yet also smooth, medium bodies mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Very easy to drink for a 9% AVB beer. Good all beer around here.

The brewery made me aware of this through Facebook and I picked up a bottle a couple days after the release. The ratings I gave it pretty much speak for themselves. If I would have had this a year ago, I would have surely have rated this higher. However having recently had KBS and Dark Apparition, this, while very enjoyable, just doesn't have the heft that they do, although like other stouts, the warmer they get the better they taste. I still might pick up another bottle to age.

Stopped in and had one on draft. Left with 2 bottles. Fantastic stout. Smooth, rich chocolate, great barrel character and sublte cherry, smoke and paprika. These guys nailed it!
