this has a lot going for it right now, its nice and nutty and malty, more grain forward than a lot of ipa types, which i think allows it to not be overly fruity or sweet like that, the malt balances that elements nicely, and makes a more drinkable beer. i also like that the hops are as bold as they are, they are well ahead of the fruit and this drinks like a hoppy beer before a fruity beer. that said, what is the fascination with blood orange? whoever grows and sells them must be making a fortune. seems like every brewery of all sizes is making one of these more or less right now, and although i tend to like them more often than not, how about trying something a bit different guys? this is good, but its also kind of same with the sweet tang of the blood orange and the high alpha bitterness in the finish, its clean and well made, but it is unexciting at this point, and i pretty much always expect exciting beer from black shirt. good beer, but its high time to leave this trend to wither and die. time to move on...

Appearance - light copper color. Smell - piney and fruity. Taste - follows the nose but the blood orange doesn't jump out. Overall - this is an alright beer.
