A: This black IPA was poured into a fluted tulip glass. The brew was gorgeous deep black in color with just a little hue of murkiness and brown accents. The head was minimal when poured but creamy white in appearance and dissipated quickly. Lacing was also minimal. Definitely a mouth-watering look.
S: The smell is very complex. There is an earthiness that is complimented by a malt scent but the quintessential hop aroma is lacking. In the place of that hop smell is a sweetness that mingles with coffee and a dark fruit flavor, possibly raisins or plums. Although that seems strange to me, the scent of the brew is rather intoxicating.
T: The taste builds in your mouth at first. It is rather calm and earthy at first flavor but deepens to a bitterness , from the hops. The flavor is also darker, although the fruit aromas smelled seem to be lacking from the taste.
M: This brew is creamy and wet, with minimal carbonation. Quite drinkable indeed!
O: This brew was made with Cascade, Chinook, Amarillo however this was really surprising. Comparing this reformulation of Toxic to the first one I have reviewed, it is quite different. The appearance is darker, smell more complex with less normal hop scents, and an almost creamier texture. Maybe my tastebuds need more brews, since I have been abstinent as of late, but it was a very interesting brew indeed, reminding me more of a hoppier Belgium minus those characteristic yeasts. Regardless, this was a fantastic brew and was incredibly enjoyed.
