Vanilla Expedition was described to me by the brewer as "Pump Fiction (his pumpkin beer) without the pumpkin." It is a strong ale with spices.
Day-old mini-growler (blasphemy, I know, but I had to drive back to school) poured into 22oz snifter. Rich translucent orange-amber, with a dense, fluffy white head that fades very slowly and leaves excellent lacing everywhere. I'm really pleased with how well this kept its carbonation, considering it's almost 2 days old.
Smell is slightly boozy, sweet malt, vanilla, with lots of "spice" smell from the usual fall spices (nutmeg, etc.). Also a scent I couldn't identify, and I finally realized was like Belgian yeast. I'm not sure if this beer uses any Belgian yeast, but the smell is reminiscent of a tripel.
Taste is big; sweet malt, vanilla, spices, belgian yeast, some other sweetness, and booze.
Mouthfeel is big and creamy, awesome.
Overall, this is an interesting strong ale. I'm not always a fan of the whole belgian/spices thing, but this makes it work. This is definitely a beer that will warm you up, and even though it's a touch boozy it's definitely dangerously drinkable for its 10%.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
