650ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a slightly hazy honey yellow with one finger of eggshell head that leaves some decent sheets of lace as it recedes.

Smells pretty tasty. Peach slices, vanilla milkshake, orange juice, sugared red grapefruit, cut flowers and soft pine resin.

Tastes of red grapefruit flesh and juicy peach, homemade bread, vanilla, candied orange peel and some more assertive piney hops.

Feels soft and creamy. Hefty medium bodied with silky carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Highly recommended. Smells fabulously milkshakey but still tastes like a solid ipa.

 

 

 

This is an ipa bursting with fruit flavour, with hints of vanilla as well.
The mouthfeel is quite smooth and creamy. The hop bitterness is very restrained and subtle which is a nice change from most ipa's; overall a very enjoyable and drinkable beer I would definitely get again.

Poured from a 473ml can. Canned on May 25/2018. Brewed with North Shore Water, Pale Malt, Wheat Malt,Flaked Oats,
Caramel Vienna Malt, Acidulated Malt, Lactose, Magnum/Citra/Amarilo Hops, Peach Juice and London Ale III Yeast.
I have had a few of these Milkshake IPA's now, this one is ok not great but had to try it.

650ml bottle - so a 'peach milkshake' IPA? Not gonna comment on how this might have brought this boy to the yard, no ma'am!

This beer pours a somewhat hazy, dark copper amber colour, with two hefty fingers of puffy, rocky, and chunky ecru head, which leaves some random gnarly tree branch lace around the glass as it quickly bleeds out of sight.

It smells of vanilla ice cream, bready and doughy caramel malt, musty fresh peaches, further candied citrus notes, and some plain leafy, earthy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is creamy vanilla cookie dough, canned peaches, dried apricots, sweet orange candy 'slices', further caramel and toffee malt essences, free-range white sugar, and more leafy, weedy, and somewhat herbal verdant hoppiness,

The carbonation is fairly tame in its plebeian frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and fairly smooth, with the obvious oats and vanilla contributing to a pleasant enough creaminess. It finishes well off-dry, the peach, vanilla, and basic bitch caramel malt jostling for their lingering positions.

Overall, this is indeed an interesting conceit, i.e. blending a west-coast IPA with a stone-fruit milkshake. It turns out that the citrusy parts of the IPA hops have no problem integrating, yet the forest floor detritus ones do, unsurprisingly. It's a bit of a train wreck, really, but one that I cannot help staring at, while at the same time drinking the rest of it away. Yeah, that.

After hearing about the hype surrounding this style I have to admit I was pretty interested in trying it out. I didn't have to sit in a lawn chair and wait outside of a brewery for 5 hours, although the first store I tried said they sold the whole case they got the first day. First pour was a dark amber colour, semi-opaque, with a thin tan head and plenty of lacing. There was lots of sediment left around the bottom of the bottle so I made sure to swirl it around, which made the second pour a murky, double double sort of orange brown. Smell is over the top sweetness and peaches. Taste follows the nose but ends up more bitter, an orange ice cream flavour that gets muddled behind early addition hops. Medium carbination that got a bit more smooth/silky on the second pour after swirling. All around an interesting take on a milk style beer, which I am usually a fan of, however the bitter element of the base IPA seemed to counter the sweet part from the lactose and fruit. It grew on me a bit after the second pour though.
