Look is slightly hazy copper gold color. There is a slight white head, which breaks quickly. Surprised at the light color, but hey, it still looks pretty good. Smell is cardamon strong. I am not a huge fan of cardamon, so I am looking for more...and I do get a touch of citrus and then some malts to counter the dominant smell. Taste is a bit of a disappointment, in that that darn cardamon is strong. This is supposed to be a pear beer, but I am only getting traces on the back end. There is also the hop bitterness (I am surprised they used citra in this, as it is completely overpowered by the spice). Feel is medium with decent carbonation. The spices seem to give a weird aftertaste, which is not entirely pleasant.

So, had this at a bottle share, and there were four of us who shared. There was consensus that this was not a strong beer, and that the spice profile covered over the title ingredient.

650ml bottle - made with cardamom and vanilla? Hoooookay.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and chunky eggshell white head, which leaves some splattered soap scum lace around the glass as it steadily recedes.

It smells of earthy cardamom, a mixed pome and citrus fruitiness, gritty and grainy caramel malt, and further leafy, herbal, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is big pear, orange, and lemon fruity notes, milky vanilla, bready and doughy caramel malt, an indistinct estery spiciness, and more edgy leafy, weedy, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its workaday frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, as the weird spice element makes for a tough sell here. It finishes off-dry, the fruit, creamy vanilla, and forest floor detritus characters the biggest lingering concerns.

Overall - well, this turned out to be a whole lot better than I had initially surmised. The fruity essence is more citrusy than pear-like, and the vanilla/lactose/oats combination really balances things out. Not too sure why in the world they needed to add cardamom to the mix, but I guess that's their prerogative.
