16oz can poured into a tulip. Best by date of 6/1/15.
A: Dark brown pour with some lighter Ruby hues. Very fine-bubbled sandy head retains well at an inch in height. Webby and spotty lacing.
S: Caramel and brown molasses. Cocoa. Toasty grain. Undercurrent of earthy yeast. Hay. Slightly steely. Herbal hops.
T: Rich molasses and cocoa. Roasty grain. Coffee-flavored syrup. Caramel. Slightly steely. Hay. Sweet throughout. Muted earthy yeast. Vague fruitiness and some tobacco and tea-like flavors coming from the hops. Earthy and herbal hop flavors reach a crescendo on the back end. Molasses and earthy hop flavors on the finish.
M: Big-boned medium body. Chewy and sticky malt texture- there's a lot of residuals here. Low tingling carbonation means that sticky malt texture sets in all the more.
O: The sweetness of it really weighs it down and starts to fatigue the palate. Perhaps better characterized as a very dark Biere de Garde than a Belgian Dark.
