330ml Metal bottle that's too cool for school. I picked this up just because it was new on the shelves and I was curious, though I hold out little hope for it....

Darker golden colour, lots of carbonation, almost no head and minimal lacing. Smell is of Anise, allspce, cloves, and perhaps a little nutmeg. Cloyingly sweet, with an almost imperceptible hop aroma. Some cheap malt thrown in for good measure as well...

Taste is extremely sweet with notes of licorice (the whole absinthe thing, yeah, I get it), unpleasantly cheap malts, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is sticky and too carbonated. As I make my way through the glass the beer starts to render itself almost undrinkable, it is so muddled and awkward. Lots of alcohol though, so I guess if I was a cool guy at a bar in France and wanted to get trashed fast, I'd ask for one of those beers in the metal bottle. Not my bag at all, real Absinthe is very much preferable.

Gold in colour, with medium carbonation. Aromas of black licorice and allspice, with a bit of light malt in the background. More of the same in the mouth, but with a kind of a poorly made strong lager component (estery in a bad way). Heavy bodied as well, which seems quite out of place. This is not a good beer at all, but it’s more bizzare than disgusting. A drainpour... even for someone who enjoys absinthe.

33cl. aluminum bottle: This pouts a pale, golden color. Also a bit fizzy. There is a bit of a white head. The aroma is interesting and a bit odd. Nothing in there that I would call beer. Spices and licorice are the most prominent. Perhaps this is what Absinthe is supposed to smell like. The taste is mildly spicy, with hints of the licorice. I can’t really taste any beer. Some bitterness in the aftertaste, but nothing at all from hops. A different bitterness. I don’t think that I could take more than 1.

The second cool French beer made especially for cool French people. Even more exciting than the J ginger (although ginger’s aphrodisiac, uhhh), the J absinth, with absinth, the illegal alcohol. If it’s forbidden, it’s probably so tasty, and it will show that I’m a real rebel. I think this beer is well marketed, but still, it’s a really annoying beer. It’s like a beer made my brewers ashamed to make beer, for people ashamed to drink beer.
The head was more irregular than for the J ginger and it fade quicker, and it died. The body had some orange notes in addition to the golden color. The smell is enjoyably herbal, almost medicinal and sweet, I guess that’s absinth. The taste is overly herbal and medicinal, lacking subtlety. At this point, everybody has understood that this is a beer aromatized with absinth aromas, and I became bored. Why would you want to make a beer that’d be a mix between soda and alcohol? To sell it, I guess…
