A traditional summer wheat ale with a unique Saucony twist. We make a health addition of real bananas directly to the mash, bringing out a distinct banana aroma and flavor.

Saucony Creek Brewing Co. "Roxie's Golden Bananas"
$10/32 oz. crowler @ Saucony Creek Brewing Company + Gastropub on 09/28/2019 and sampled on 09/29/2018
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy golden body with a bit of an orange sheen to it while in the full pint. The head is an inch-plus of loose white foam and it doesn't appear as if it'll hold real well. The aroma displays soft ripe banana, a bit of apple, and some lightly sweetish wheaty malt. The flavor echoes the aroma and I see now why it's listed as an American pale wheat ale, because it's certainly not a German-style hefeweizen, and yet it appears that they've used hefeweizen yeast to get the banana esters - or is that all from the bananas they add to the mash? That would explain the light touch of acidity to it, I don't know why that happens but I've seen it, and that acidity helps to dry it in the finish as the bitterness is kept minimal. It never gets sweet or sticky. Back to the bananas, I'm not sure why you'd pay extra to use real bananas when you can get a stronger banana profile out of yeast, unless of course you can't re-use the yeast enough to make it worth it. There's a bit of a financial question there because I can't imagine that real bananas are cheaper than a pitch of yeast, but I won't go into that except to guess that maybe they want to say they used real bananas in it? If so, I don't think that's really paying off too well as the beer could certainly be better. The body is medium, as is the carbonation unless my crowler was filled poorly, and that explains the lack of head retention and lacing. The head dropped shortly and I currently have nothing left, not even a thin collar, and there was never any lacing to speak of - that's generally not good for a wheat beer which has a lot more proteins to it. What this does have going for it is simplicity, balance, and drinkability. I really wish there was a little more carbonation to it, but not nearly as much as you'd find in a hefeweizen, and then I think it'd be an excellent summer beer.

Not a fan. Almost no banana flavor. Mouthfeel and appearance are ok.

Well I overpaid for this a summer ale during winter time for 3 dollars... Into a goblet
A - Thankfully no sediment and a 1/2 inch of sticky head atop a golden color ale.
S - To me very mild banana I get more from world class Hefeweizen beers. The wheat is good slightly sour and fruity.
T - Banana is kind of sweet and vegital with a touch of peel flavor. Wheat is a good balance. Slightly sour but smooth. Pretty good.
M - Light bodied yet has a good body. Somewhat sessionable.
Overall a different beer I guess I expected something sweeter or more artificial in flavor. Not a bad experimental ale.

A big shout out to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a rich golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of wheat, some mild banana. Taste is light, wheat, lemons, very light banana, kind of mild overall. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, maybe my expectations for this beer were to high, but the banana flavor in this beer never stepped up to the plate as I was hoping, and left me a bit disappointed.
