Pours a very beautiful copper color. Nice maltiness. A little strong on the alcohol taste though.

Saucony Creek Brewing Co. "xReserve Bocktoberfest"
on tap at the brewery on 24 Sept 2016
$5/pint

Notes: Listed at 6.3% ABV. Hazy chestnut brown body beneath an off-white head. Head retention is decent but the lacing is limited. Toasty and caramelish malt in the aroma. The flavor follows with a bit more breadiness to the malt, some apple, and grassy and spicy hops (or is that alcohol?). Medium bodied with a median carbonation that's gently zesty at first and then smoother as it warms. Firmly bitter, it finishes dry in part due to a light slap of alcohol. Overall fairly well-balanced and drinkable.

Kind of like a double fest. Nice mouth feel, taste solid marzen sense, with a little extra malt.

look: clear copper
smell: malt, fruit & alcohol
feel: Thickness that seems to quickly fizz away, and then some how, come back
taste: burst of bready malt and alcohol, tiny bit of fruitiness, and then nutty german hops
overall: best Octoberfest, Marzen, or Bock I've ever tasted (I haven't had many). This thing hits the tongue with pure malt, booze and hops, without the sweetness or metal found in this style.

L: Thick, beige billowy head upon hard pour, dissipated pretty quickly into thick lacing across the top. Clear amber brown.
S: A mix of toffee and concentrated fruit juice - not sure what kind. Typing that just made me feel kind of crazy...
T: Seems like a pretty good mix of both the bock and marzen styles: maltiness and heat up front with a bit of a dry finish. I was expecting more malt, but it's not bad.
F: Smooth, some alcohol heat.

Look: Transparent brown color, nearly no head, very minimal lacing.

Smell: Like a lager, little malt character.

Taste: Like a lager... Could be better - was expecting more of a malt backbone, but not bad.

Feel: Crisp and carbonated, nice.

Overall: A decent lager, could certainly improve this recipe, but I would drink again as a session beer.
