Saucony Creek Brewing Co. "Kokosnuss Fur Dich!!"
$10/32 oz. crowler @ Saucony Creek Brewing Company + Gastropub on 09/28/2019 and sampled on 09/30/2018
Notes via stream of consciousness: OK, coconut porter here we go! It's got a typical porter appearance with a clear, very dark mahogany brown body beneath a short cap of tan foam. The aroma is mainly toasty with a bit of caramel and nuttiness rounding it out. Aber wo ist das kokosnuss? That's OK though, it's got a pleasant porter aroma. On to the flavor... well there's a bit of coconut there, but not too much, and it mainly shows up across the middle and again in the finish. The toasty note is really nice, and it's well balanced. I would like more coconut but that's OK, and I'm guessing that they used shredded coconut that they toasted themselves based on the flavor and aroma. It's got a moderate bitterness, and although there's a little sweetness to it in the beginning it finishes dry. No hops are to be found other than in the background but I wouldn't expect there to be any there anyway. In the mouth it's medium bodied and smooth with a low level carbonation. The head retention and lacing could certainly have been better but I'll attribute that to the oils from the coconut and give it a bit of a pass. In the end I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit let down but that's probably because of the strong suggestion of coconut found in the name. The name should really probably be "Ein Bißen Kokosnuss" rather than "Kokosnuss Fur Dich!!" with the two exclamation points. For those who don't speak or read Deutch I apologize, but I didn't start it, Saucony Creek did.
