on draft at the brewpub, 10 oz glass

dark copper in color fairly clear, off-white colored head. aroma of caramel malt and mild earthy hops. similar taste, fairly bitter. sort of straddling the line between American and English styles. Would have been better off at either end of the malty/hoppy spectrum instead of in no-man's land.

A - Dark gold in color with nice clarity with sticky white lacing on the sides of the glass.

S - Caramelized pale malt aroma with a slight and delicate light fruit hit on the nose. Aroma reminds me more of a Belgian Golden Ale.

T - Sweet light malt with slight caramelization, some light spicy citrus rind, and ends with a lingering piney bitterness along with spicy rind and malt sweetness. As you work through the can there is a nice amount of resin build-up on the palate like an IPA.

M - Big medium body with light pricklies and finishes pillowy soft.

O - Looks like a Belgian Strong Golden Ale with the bitterness of a Barleywine. This one is definitely a Blonde Barleywine that eventually comes off as an IPA towards the end of the beer with a hoppy and resiny build. I can't figure this one out, it's an odd duck, that's all I can say. If I drank it blindfolded I would rate it more like an IPA. My overall score of the beer changed as I drank it and rated it higher than when I started. Think everything BUT a Barleywine and then go from there.
