330ml bottle bought from Ales By Mail
Poured a deep burgundy red colour with some brown hints... light tan head pours thick and meringue like then faded slowly to good frothy coating... loads of carbonation rushes to the surface... light sticky lacing...
Aroma - Sweet toasted bready and caramel malts, dark candy sugar, lots of yeastiness, overripe dark fruits (plums, some banana, raisins, dates), some light sour vinegar notes, leathery traces, some pepperiness...
Taste - Lots of toasted biscuity and bready malts, brown sugar and treacle sweetness, quite earthy and musty, again some dark overripe fruits (raisins, dates and prunes), alcohol just noticeable, some vegetal hints, light sourness, salty traces...
Feel - Sharp initially then becomes smoother... medium / full bodied... pretty drinkable for a 6.4 brew...
Overall - A good, if pretty standard, example of a Belgian Dubbel... worth a try though...
