What began as our Russian Imperial Stout has been brewed into our M.A.D. Rum Runner's Reserve, a New World imperial stout brewed with all American malts & hops aged in Caribbean rum barrels. Along with bold notes of chocolate, coffee, & molasses the rum barrels add a hit of sweet oak, vanilla, & toasted coconut.

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with a thin ecru cap; leggy, with dots dribbling down
Smell: Oaky rum barrel tones dominate the aromatics, along with vanilla, burnt toast and molasses
Taste: Boozy from the get-go, the rum barrel flavors dominate, with molasses, vanilla and Baker's chocolate emerging; some toasted coconut arrives as the rum flavors build further, in the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; considerable warmth in the gullet
Overall: This beer is built to cellar and it is a bit raw, at this point; over times, the rum tones should mellow allowing the other flavors to emerge (and, in fact, that is exactly what happened as I drank my remaining bottle 18 months later)
Thanks, jrc1093, for the opportunity
