I'm not normally a Sour Ale kind of guy. I like to try one now and then, but my curiosity is always satisfied by a few sips. Shayla is different. When I'm in the mood, I've found myself seeking this one out above any other sour I've tried--including within Thimble Island's Sour Series. And I will drink the full pint. This is one of my favorite sours.
L: Juicy. Appealing. Pleasant red fruity color.
S: Like a sour candy. Not too decadent and not off-putting. Dare I describe it as "intriguing and inviting".
T: Please note that I like big flavors, and this one delivers. Sour candy leads the faint cranberry. Orange doesn't stand out to me, but the tartness associated with cranberries is definitely tempered--likely by the quiet orange. In some ways, the flavor is simplistic and leaves me wanting a little more. But it reminds me of a Summer Session take on a homemade cranberry orange sauce at Thanksgiving.
F: Lightly carbonated. Thin and light.
O: Breaking down my experience through its L/S/T/F has made me realize: This is almost ideal for me as a sour.
