A 330ml bottle with a BB of March 2014. Acquired a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as a South Pacific IPA and claims 90 IBUs....
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with plentiful sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of fruity hops with hints of lime, citrus, tropical fruit, white grape, caramel malt and earthy yeast. A touch of alcohol in the background. Pleasantly juicy.
Tastes of fruity aromatic hops and yeast, with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of lime, peel, citrus, white grape, mild tropical fruit, grass, earthy yeast, subtle caramel and faint stewed hops. A faint whiff of booze. Well-attenuated, followed by a restrained, hoppy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with soft carbonation and good body. Hop oils stimulate the palate. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of fruity aromatic hops, earthy yeast and a leafy bitterness.
Not bad, though not the best IPA I've ever sampled. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour showcase plenty of fruity hop notes and an overdose of dry yeast. Body is alright, though enhanced carbonation would add texture. Dialling back the yeast might also be an improvement. I'm not convinced this has 90 IBUs but the overall flavour balance is solid - worth a punt if you come across it.
