Gravity cask halfpint at the London Drinker festival.
A: Deep black body, garnet hints at the margins. Two fingers of rich tan foam. Lovely cask pour.
S: Whoa! I was not prepared for that. Huge, decadent chocolate-caramel aroma just explodes from the glass. Big, sweet, candied, and remarkably intense for a sub-5% brew. Wonderful.
T: Opens with rich milk chocolate, moves through sweet caramel malt to a bitter, roasted, coffee-tinged finish. Long, dry aftertaste keeps it very drinkable and not at all cloying given the big up front sweetness. Great.
M: Frothy, creamy medium body. Terrific for cask, terrific for its strength, terrific all around.
O: This was absolutely one of the standouts of the festival for me, as it provided all the richness of an imperial stout along with the drinkability of a sessionable one. If you're in the UK, keep an eye out for Botanist!
Cheers!
