Pouring from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. This beer pours out dark brown in color, looking like coffee, and forms a thin light tan crown. The smell is a warming rum with coconut and some fruitiness like dark cherries. Almost has a ester element that makes it smell similar to something Belgian. I love the complexity, hopefully it carries on to the taste. The taste brings in a dry like fruitiness with the dark cherries and slight coconut. The rum is balanced and the barrel is present in the form of the dryness. The body could be a little thicker, but then again, it being on the thinner side does work with the rum to be a nice summer stout. Overall, I liked it. And I think this is my first Texas beer?

Smell: Initially you get really sweet Rum almost like a rum cake and dark jammy fruits. Fig newtons, raisin, plums .Theres an underlining milk chocolate and vanilla note. A faint hint of dark roasted malt, toasted bread crust, brown sugar and coconut, but overall this is really forward on the nose with dark jammy fruit and Rum . The beer isn't overly boozy smelling at all. The nose is really pleasant.
Taste: Right upfront i'm greeted with those jammy dark fruit notes I got in the nose. Figs, raisin, plums with a noticeable sweet Rum presence coming through. The Rum is noticeable throughout the mid palate and into the finish. In the mid palate you get some toasted bread crust with a faint hint of brown sugar and rich milk chocolate. In the finish you get a nice kick of barrel flavors. Vanilla, charred wood, dark roasted malts and a pleasnet amount of rum. The Rum really gives your chest a nice warming feeling as the beer goes is going down. The vanilla, charred oak and Rum hang around on the tongue in the aftertaste for a few seconds before the beer becomes rather dry.
Feel: The beer has a medium mouthfeel, with nice crisp carbonation and a light creaminess that helps add to the mouthfeel in a good way. The beer also finishes pretty dry.
Overall: A really nice beer. Lots of Barrel and Rum flavor. This is a really nice beer that I would definitely drink again. I would say it's tetering on that world class level. I definitely like this enough that I would seek out the other batches that use different barrels. I'm really glad I got this as an extra in a trade.

11.6% abv...Poured from a decadent gold foil and black/ dark gray labeled bottle & into a stout glass. Lacing is nice initially, head is small but rich, body appears deep black.
The rum barrel aroma jumps up at you here. Once my nose is actually over the glass, it's full blast rum booze, with some underlying chocolate/ coconut notes.
Taste is a rum barrel-infused russian imperial stout. There are distant vanilla hints, but plenty of up front roasted toffee notes. As I sip it longer, some roasted coffee beans.
Feels thick and chewy, a bit sticky.
Even though I don't think this is a complex beast (I didn't find the candied fruit), it still holds its own.

Pours a thin black with minimal head. Tastes and smells of vanilla and sweet rum. This is the best BA Legion yet! Will age very well.
