December 29th, 2013 - I continue my way through the Hall beers that were available at the local liquor store. Few in number, but the first sample and sip was tantalizingly good. Next on the docket is Hall's Harvest Farmhouse Ale, promising a verdant, taste of the field. It's tanned leather color, with a bit more an auburn touch, and the beer is incredibly clear, barely disturbed by carbonation journeying to the foam up top. The aroma brings an earth sweetness like a good sake, with some sauerkraut and yogurt tang. If you've had kefir, it reminds me a great deal of that bacteria powered sweetness and punch. We see the same dimensions in the flavor, sweeter than the nose, but more of that kefir, lactic sugar. That sweet element ends with a subtler touch, again with sake and a mushroom earthiness, bringing a sophisticated and lively funk. This is an absolutely brilliant beer, and serves to intensify my interest in Hall.
