Brewed with Northern Brewer, Ahtanum and Centennial and placed upon the broad shoulders of a smooth, toasted bread and caramel grain bill, this lightly titian colored ale begins with floral and citrus aromatics. The flavor is a smooth, toasted malt that is quickly washed away by a balanced bitterness.

32oz growler, freshly filled on 4/30 enjoyed on 5/2, poured into a Triptych Shaker.
The beer pours a wonderfully clear amber color, hues of orange, gold and copper with a soft, loose, fizzy white head, a finger at best that has nice retention and leaves a wonderful swath of soapy lace. The aroma is very malt forward, caramel, vienna and toasted grain, rich, sweet, but also bready and lightly bitter, with some nice hop spice, light fruit and a touch of citrus. The flavors ring true, lots of bready malt, sweet but rustic, lightly bitter from the hops, a bit of citrus, touches of pine, light but assertive, perfectly balanced. The body is spot on, lively but coating, soft yet zippy, feels great on the mouth, creamy at the finish.
Verdict: Wonderful malty Pale Ale from Triptych. Aside from Scratch, Triptych is the best Illinois brewery no one has heard of and this Pale Ale is right on queue. Lovely malt flavors, sweet but rustic, not too caramel forward, not too pine forward, just enough hops to keep things interesting. A great session style beer.
