12oz can acquired at the brewery. $14/ 4 pack. No canning date. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours jet black with a just shy of two finger cap of pale khaki head. The froth gradually fades completely, leaving neither retention nor lace.

Sweet and roasty aromas fill my nose. A pleasant, almost lactose sweetness is followed by chocolate, roasted malt, caramel and vanilla. Fantastic.

Taste follows the nose rather well. Sweet milk sugars (which I don't think are actually used in the brewing but that's what I taste), rich dark chocolate cake, whiskey, burnt caramel, vanilla and a hearty dose of booze. This is a sweet and hefty sipper.

Thick, sludgy body with silky smooth carbonation. The lingering, decadent aftertaste conjures images of dark chocolate brownies with bourbon caramel cream icing.

Blue Tarp has really elevated their imperial stout. Bourbon Barrel Aged Last Place Stout is an example of barrel treatment giving a beer exactly what I think it needs. I typically find the base to lean a bit burnt and bitter for my tastes so the addition of the whiskey and oaky sweetness takes it to a whole new level. Super glad this happened to be available when I visited the brewery.
