Sampled on-tap at The Draft House in April 2006.
This Strong Scotch Ale poured a murky, brown color with creamy, tan foam that slowly settled and clung to the glass. The smell was modestly malty. The taste was malty and slightly sweet with notes of cocoa and chocolate. There was a mild hoppiness beneath the malt. The mouthfeel was smooth and relatively dry overall with medium-full body and moderate carbonation. The finish was moderately hoppy. This was a good, smooth Scotch Ale.

Appearance: clear brown in color with a one finger head. Some spotty lacing develops.
Smell: simple malts and alcohol.
Taste: tons of maltiness, with some soft chocolate tones, alcohol, peat, and a mild bitterness.
Mouthfeel: lightly crisp at the start, smooth towards the finish. The malts and alcohol linger briefly in the aftertaste.
Drinkability: decent drinkability, and overall a solid scotch ale. The alcohol levels are noticeable and keep the score down a notch.

Poured a thick, brown and maroon hue with a deep tan head that quickly receded.
Aroma of chewy chocolate and caramel with some grainy hints and an earhty, peaty note.
Flavors of meaty, chewy, peaty malted barley cut with just enough chocolate notes to be nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel was very lush and palate coating. Only slight defect I noticed was that there was not much of a lingering kidn of feel of the beer. Started like it was going to coat your palate but I believe the alcohol level just cut off the finish a bit too son.
Drinkability was very solid. 2 for 2 for the evening.
