Sampled on-tap at The Draft House in April 2006.
This doppelbock poured a clear, deep chestnut color with creamy, tan foam that persisted and slowly settled. The smell was very malty. The taste was sweet and malty with some cocoa flavor and a touch of Munich malt flavor. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium-full body and strong carbonation. It was a touch warming. This was a very nice and very easy to drink doppelbock. Nice.

A very enjoyable beer. Very dark color, with a light body that makes for easy drinking. It won't fill you up. Has an aggressive malty taste that announces itself on the first sip; sweet elements without being syrupy. On first taste I thought this could be a great beer, but I downgraded it to "very good" as I worked through the glass, as I did not detect much subtley in it.
Still a very pleasing offering and one I will look forward to revisiting.

Appearance: clear brown in color with some burgandy highlights on the glass edge. 1/2" head falls to a coating surface foam. Spotty lacing develops.
Smell: malts and brown sugar are easily detectable.
Taste: thick chewy malt backbone, with some caramel, hint of chocolates, brown sugars, raisins, soft alcohol, and a nice bitterness. One of the better doppelbocks I have had from a brewpub.
Mouthfeel: smooth all around, and the malts cling to your tongue after swallowing. Medium-heavy in body.
Drinkability: easy drinking for a doppelbock as the alcohol levels are in check and the flavor is what I am looking for in the style. On my recent Vegas trip, this was the beer I had the most of during the week-long visit. Must have if on tap.

Pours a deep mahogany and brown with a medium tan head with lots of foam with some staying power.
Aroma of dark wheat bread, chocolate notes and delicious Hallertau hops.
Flavors of chocolate, wheat even a bit of citrus explode in your mouth. As some similar characteristics to a Aventinus but more chewy and malty.
Mouthfeel is finley tuned well balanced and has solid depth to go with the great balance.
Drinkability was excellent. Simply could not have just one and while they were essentially free could not pass on. Excellent beer - 3 for 3 for the night plus I just hit a $100 on video poker.
