Poured from a wax-sealed bomber bottle into a snifter.
L - Straw color with just a hint of orange. Slightly cloudy. Fluffy white head recedes to a thin, fairly solid sheet with lacing.
S - Soft, bready malt aroma is at a lower level than what I interpret as an assertive blend of tropical and catty hops with sharply spicy tequila barrel character.
T - The flavors emphasize the tequila and a hint of hot pepper flavors, although actual heat is restrained. The malt is present as a bready note and mild sweetness late in the palate. The flavors are complex and unusual.
F - Medium body with low but creamy carbonation. Medium hops bitterness combines with the low pepper heat to tease the tongue and back of the throat. Low to medium alcohol heat.
O - This is a surprising and unique beer. Based on the label, I was expecting tequila and oak, but not hot pepper, but I can only conclude that peppers were used. There is very little wood presence in this beer, but the spiciness of the tequila and hops are ingeniously intertwined with the pepper character for a complex and delicious final result..
