Very dark brown opaque brew with an unimpressive wisp of foam in the wine glass. Smell is musty with some kind of dark and grainy aroma. Not very sweet, considering the label says it's brewed with lactose sugar. So it tastes like a dark, bitter stout with a little dose of sweetener. Finish is on the burnt side, but mostly it's grainy. From the 16 oz can purchased at a beer store in SF.

12 oz. tulip
a: pours jet black out of the can, light lacing. i would have inferred a higher ABV relative to the speed of head dissipation had i not known it was merely 5.0%. sits like a RIS after just a few minutes.
s: light, sweet, and abrupt. lactose was probably added post fermentation. that's what hits me up front. not as sweet as southern tier's (although not many are) on the nose but they didn't hold back.
t: chocolatey and lactic. the chocolate lingers mid palate for a few seconds and fades suddenly. small coffee traces, but nothing to write home about. real light sweetness on the finish.
m: lightly to moderately hopped. achieved the desired creamy, velvety mouthfeel that draws me to milk stouts so nothing to complain about.
o: solid milk stout overall. worth trying. good to see another another SF brewery trying their hand at a beer that generally has very little upside unless it hits it outta the park.
