Picked this up at one of the best beer stores ever, Bierhalle Deconinck. Luckily I opened this one slowly, as it would have been a gusher had I not. Pitch black pour with a huge three finger foamy beige head with good retention and lacing. The nose is roasty and boozey with hints of cocoa, dark chocolate, licorice, vanilla, and espresso. The taste is big and roasty with the booze again coming through, but much more subtle than it was on the nose. Hints of dark fruit, cocoa, espresso, vanilla, licorice, molasses, brown sugar, and some subtle smoke. The mouthfeel is a tad bit thin for the style with fizzy carbonation, and a dry, subtly sweet finish. Overall, this was surprisingly drinkable for as boozey as the nose was. Anxious to try out the rest of their stuff that I picked up.

A slow gusher, it pours with a huge frothy mocha head. Pops away in time, but doesn't leave much on the glass. Pitch black.
Acidic dark fruit on the nose, some roast, really strong whisky, vanilla, licorice, light chocolate. A bit aggressive on the nostrils.
And yes, a big whisky punch from the start, but not a rich bourbon note, more like some strong.. almost medicinal alcohol. Bit of raisin and plum. Roasted malts save it from further shame, with some nice dark chocolate, smoked dark bread crust and pretty nice coffee notes. Manages to cover up the initial "smack in the teeth" pretty nicely. Nice oaky notes to follow, with some vanilla, faint peppercorn. Caramel sweetness in the finish to turn this from "boozy" to "just warm", with that nice strong coffee note still lingering.
And that's what stays in the aftertaste, even after the short dry finish: coffee, wood, roasted malt, light burnt sugar and a gentler whisky note. Medium body, medium carbonation (fizzy at first, but it settles).
Lands on both feet in the end, fortunately. Pretty cool.
