2016-05-29. 330 ml bottle. Lot 2014-01. Best before 2019-11-30.

A: Cloudy dark brown. Poured a lot of foam.
S: Intense caramelized malty, toffee. Some pepper, woods, and alcohol.
T: Woods, caramel, roasted nuts, herbs, and alcohol. No hops! Hints of sourness. Dry. Moderate bitterness.
M: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation.
O: Unfortunately there are almost no hops characters given that it's an imperial IPA. The aroma is good, the flavor isn't.

We all know the hops characters tend to fade soon, so aging IPA in (wood) barrels is tricky or the result will be a mess, and sadly this one goes to the later category. Still I think this is a emerging style and people will find a way to do it right.

Well this is something new for me.
Pours really dirty dark orange, tiny ruby reflections, a messy fluffy off-white head, compact, pillowy, slowly receding.
Smell of (somewhat) fermenting fruit, like overripe peach, apricot, a bit of melon, some orange, a nice hint of mango and pineapple. Gloopy caramel, faint toffee, touch of vanilla, a bit of toast. Strong dry oak, like an unused barrel.
Taste packs quite a lot of hops, but the start is rather heavy, with toasted malts and pine straight up. Fruitiness follows and mixes well with some caramel, a short flash of orange, melon, peach, papaya, mango, but time enough to get an off sweet carrot like note too. Barrel smashes right on top of everything, a really strong wood note, dusty, dry, toasted, it's like there are still woodchips in the beer (hopefully not!). Tequila brings booze, simple as that, can slightly feel some agave, but mostly just like a cheap shot of flavored spirit. Pine still around for the bitter dry finish.
Medium to heavy in body, medium carbonation. Aftertaste has some hop fruitiness, pine, lots of wood, some lingering, numbing alcohol.
Not as bad as i thought it would be, i was somewhat hoping for it to be either really good, or a massive, unforgettable disaster. It falls somewhere in the middle, with some really nice notes and some less than mediocre ones. Glad i tried it, more White Pony/t'Gaverhopke stuff to follow.
