Pitch black pour with a nice full finger mocha head. Soon turns into a thick lace that stick around tho.
Intense smell of coffee and Bourbon that will already wake you up. Toasted oak, burnt malt, vanilla, light dark chocolate, light dark spices, really faint generic dark fruit. Doesn't seem to be too boozy, we'll see.
Yep, this will wake you up, alright! Bourbon upfront, alcoholic, but not numbingly so, helped by a nice and subtle dark fruity juiciness (plum, raisin). Strong coffee follows, big acidity, like an iced espresso. Sprinkle of chocolate on top, and the bourbon still lingers, even when the roasted malts show up, keeping them quite light actually. Licorice notes, some vanilla, faint anise. A touch of caramel sweetness, a light finish with some toasted wood and warm alcohol.
Aftertaste has coffee dregs, lingering Bourbon barrel, light dark bread crust. Medium body, low carbonation, a bit oily, but not too thick. Alcohol contained, even with the Bourbon spiking here and there. Gets a bit more chocolatey as it sits and warms some more.
This was nice, elements incorporated nicely, but lacked a certain "robustness" on the malt side. That would've enriched the coffee and the Bourbon, but it's nice enough as it is.
