Copenhagen 25/12 2018. 33 cl bottle from “Den Gamle Købmand, Kbh K. The label looks like a Ransom note with cut-out letters. By the way - there seems to be a trend going around dedicating beers to Donald Trump. Presented as a “Smoked Quadrupel brewed with tart cherries”.
Pours slightly hazy, dark brown with a red hue and a small off-white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam clinging to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is of a solid malt base meeting tart berries. Sweet caramel and brown sugar overpowered by tart berries. Acidic cherries with only hints of sweetness. Reminds me more of a Cherry Wine than a beer. Not much sign of the smoke.
Low carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft texture. Sticky.
Flavor has strong sweetness followed by and balanced by strong tartness. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Lingering.
A very sweet beer partly balanced by tart berries. The result is none the less decidely on the sweet side. Well made but a bit too sweet and sticky for my taste buds.
