Mariënrode Double is a full flavored high fermentation dark beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. It has 8% alcohol content and is brewed with three types of local malt, a small amount of Belgian candied brown sugar and local natural honey. A typical caramel note is derived from the caramelized malts and sugar. The honey and Belgian Abbey yeast adds hints of wildflowers and port-like Madeira flavors to this super tasty beer.

This is a dubbel unlike any I've had before and I'm not sure what to make of it. It almost smells and tastes like it's bourbon barrel aged, which I attribute to strong notes of vanilla and...man, I can't stop thinking bourbon! Some dark fruits but not as much as some other dubbels. Hints of port and madeira. Overall an interesting brew, not sure I'd pay $10/750ml for it again but glad to have tried it.

Very dark brown opaque body with two fingers of light brown foam with thick lacing. Caramel, candi sugar, belgian yeast, light flowers, huge dark fruit, and a kiss of honey and booze in the smell. Taste is much the same, but the sweetness is cumulative as it warms, vanilla emerges with some toast as well. Feel is very malty, heavier for style, chewy and very smooth
