Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, fizzy, quickly receeding head. Smell is almost more hoppy than malty, with grassy, floral notes kind of overshadowing light roasted malt and chocolate aromas. Taste is a little more malty, with some nice roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and light coffee notes, but also strong hoppy, grassy, slightly floral and earthy notes, with just a hint of licorice. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some licorice lingering in the aftertaste. Thin mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.
To be honest, this makes for a pretty good Black IPA, but a rather poor Russian Imperial Stout. Body/mouthfeel is just too thin and this also lacks those rich, malty notes expected of the style, with some rather hoppy accents.
