Pours a slightly cloudy, deep amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, caramel malt and citrus/berry hops, with notes of grapefruit and blackberry, as well as some pine. Tatse is a great balance of biscuity, caramel malt and fruity, spicy, earthy, herbal and resinous hops, with citrus, tropical and berry notes of grapefruit, mango and blackberry, as well as some pine pine and black pepper. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, blackberry and pine lingering in the aftertaste, Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a really nice old-school IPA with an interesting hop profile and great malt backbone. I really like the strong herbal, earthy and spicy accents here, backed up by some fruity berry and citrus notes, while finishing with a great, resinous bitterness. There's a definite West Coast vibe to this, with hints of East Coast character as well though. One of the more enjoyable WCIPAs I've had from a German brewery of late, proving that Ale-Mania can still do this sort of thing really well and should probably concentrate on this strength rather than making terrible milkshake IPAs.
