Pours black with a moderate tan head. Nose is char, ash, roasted malt, chocolate. Heavy on the smoky and roasty character. Taste is roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, cola, syrup and oak. The sweetness of the ingredients combine to give off the cola character. The mouthfeel is light and highly carbonated; not creamy or smooth. Solid stout with a lot going on from a teste perspective but it's lacking the body commensurate with the ABV.

With the most gentlest pour, it gets huge head. Over carbonated. Initial smell is of figs and lots of burnt Carmel malts. Initial taste is just like the smell. Not bad. Issue is that it goes down foamy and give foamy burps.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, earth, char, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, earth, char, and pine needle flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a very earth forward set of flavors.

Undated bottle at 42 degrees into snifter, allowed to warm to 48 degrees before tasting
$ 7/bomber at Blackwell’s
Aroma of roasted malt, molasses, and caramel
Head average (three cm, aggressive pour), light brown, creamy with rocks, diminishing to
Lacing excellent – complete wide rings of tiny bubbles
Body dark brown/black with hint of red, opaque

Pours a dark, flat black color with a tan foam head. Foam lacks retention left some initial sticky lacing behind. Aroma of molasses and coffee. Molasses - like flavors up front followed by alcohol and finishes with a dark roast coffee. Coffee bitterness lingers.
Overall this is a solid brew. I enjoyed this drink. Look forward to drinking it again soon.

the best of the several beers i had from these guys, its real solid, but not too huge to drink a bunch of at under 9% abv. its dark and chalky looking, flat black with a half inch of tan head, looks like a guinness really. the nose is deep roast, with a heavy stale coffee overtone, which i guess doesnt sound all that good, but really hits the spot on a hangover! its deeply malty, but not particularly bitter. it takes on more of an earthy soil and mineral character than a bitter one. there is a thin chocolate sweetness in there too which just adds another layer. the mouthfeel makes it for me though, so creamy and big, but quick finishing, and there is no detectable booze on it at all. easily the best beer i have had from 101 north. i could even have a few of them, which is uncommon for me with this style.

Poured a tad over an inch head into my stout glass.First smell is coffee and dark chocolate with a hint of alcohol.First taste was sweet and bitter but not overpowering.Think Rasputin with a shot of hersheys syrup.A pleasant surprise.Would be nice to see this in a 4 or 6 pack and not just a bomber.I would definatly buy a 4 pack and help the trade circuit abroad.All in all not a bad take on a Russian Imperial. Skal!!
